On 2 March 2023, Zita Ferenczi, air chemistry expert from the National Meteorological Service, presented the HungAIRy LIFE integrated project’s efforts in modelling the impact of air quality measures at the ATMOSYS workshop in Rome, Italy.

Air quality models are increasingly being made available through user-friendly, web-based interfaces, facilitating their widespread use. The Forum for Air Quality Modelling (FAIRMODE) is a European collaboration aiming to harmonize the application of air quality models across EU Member States by linking modellers and users Within FARMODE, ATMOSYS is a group that aims to promote web applications and build mutually supportive user communities.

The ATMOSYS workshop, organised by HungAIRy's Belgian project partner VITO, was held in the Italian Economic and Labour Council’s meeting room. It attracted 60 in-person and 80 online participants. Zita Ferenczi, Technical Manager of Air Quality Modelling at the National Meteorological Service, showcased the Hungarian ATMO-PLAN model, developed to assess the impact of air quality measures..

One objective of the HungAIRy project is to estimate the air quality impact of measures aimed at reducing air pollutants from local transport and domestic heating. The web-based air quality model is regularly tested by eco-managers in the 10 HungAIRy partner municipalities, providing an effective tool for local decision-making and reviewing air quality plans.
